Barbican House

Melbourne, Victoria

A pocket site in Middle Park, tucked away from the main streets on the corner of two cobbled laneways. A fortifying concrete perimeter wall wraps the site. Inside, courtyard spaces are carved from the overall volume, pulling light, green and sky into the centre of the house. A sinuous line of glass defines the interior/exterior threshold, and fine concrete eaves and slender columns elongate the internal proportions to create light, sculpted spaces within the brutalist concrete shell.
